Death in Santaland

Annie was on about sending letters to Santa Claus (no idea why though...) and then Jenn reminded me that I saw something on Santa Claus just last week on the ABC.

It was quite an interesting documentary, I would have watched the whole thing if only the presenter's voice wasnt so darn annoying! The doco was called "Death in Santaland"

Here's a blurb I copied from Channel4.com

Jon Ronson travels to North Pole, Alaska, to see what he can find out about a plot by a gang of 13-year-olds to murder their classmates and teachers. This tiny, freezing town is the home of the American Santa, and the local school children are his elves. Does everybody here really love Christmas, or does too much festivity bring out the need to kill?

In April 2006 six 13-year-olds were arrested in North Pole for planning a mass murder. They were part of a gang of 15 'outsiders' who had drawn up a hit list and were going to take guns and knives into class to settle some scores.

They had planned to disable the school's power and telephone systems before carrying out the shootings and then escaping to Anchorage on the train. But they were foiled when the boy who was supposed to bring the weapons failed to show up.

Were they really serious? Would this have been another Columbine or Virginia Tech? Or was it just the talk of teenagers living in a fantasy world where it's Christmas 365 days a year?

Not much was revealed I dont think watching the documentary(but then I didnt watch the whole thing), but there are a few interesting interviews with locals and what goes on in this lil Christmas town in Alaska. Kinda freaky how "jolly" they are 24/7.

There's a conversation between Ron and one of the kid's (who was one of the ring leaders in this supposed massacre) father on Ron's Myspace BlogThis was in the documentary as well.

Yea man. Its hideous! But its lovely to know theres an actualy place that acts like Sanata's workshop. I'm glad no-one got blown up. Silly kids. Guess its the parents fault too. Like dont u see these people over-doing everything even neglecting their won kids and forcing them to do all chistmassy stuff? Its sad.

U know about the earthquake in China? Thats so sad too! I heard that a kid died while still in his/her seat and with a pen in her hand. Like they were at school, no one predicted such a happening. poor people! My dad is donating lots of money to help. My uncle already donated $50. Every dollar helps and i want to too. Though i avoid the news about it, its too depressing! Opps, im going off topic. So anyway thanks for the news update ;) I should tune into the news more often, get alittle of the outside happenings...But TV is so not for me. And newspapers r such a bore (yea i know, there i go again. Picky picky picky)

sigh~

too-toes!

yeah it is sad for the chinese pplation espec. the children. i wonder how long r they still goin to search for other victims of the disaster? firstly it was Burma and then China.
